I don't believe I have ever seen this much bbq knowledge in one place at one time and there was not even a contest going on.
First I want to say thanks to Chuck Averwater for getting this all together and also a great big thanks to Suzanne Rhea and the city of Bolivar, Tn for hosting it.
Now a lot of you may not know what I am talking about so let me explain a little about what went on.
On Friday afternoon teams and or individuals that want to learn from the best of the best on the MBN circuit started showing up and setting up in downtown Bolivar. Then around 2:30, 3pm all the pro teams that had volunteer started to arrive. At 5 everyone met together for a classroom secession that went on until around 7. After a 45 minute dinner break we all met back up for a short classroom secession and before breaking the pro members aka instructors drew team names to see who they were assisting for the next 24 hours.
We all returned to our sites and the smokers started smoking at this point. After getting my guys, Cornerstone Q Crew started I was able to go catch a couple hours sleep before returning to the site Saturday morning around 5 am. At this time I found two of the members onsite and the other two had gone to shown. I asked how it had gone and they informed me that everything was on schedule, these guys had a mark and wipe board on their trailer with a step by step schedule......very, very smart guys.
Blind boxes got built and you even got to watch official MBN certified judges judges you blind and then comment after judging. Also every team that attended got to final.....that's right I said they all made finals.
You talk about a bunch of nervous teams, but this area needs practice also and they all made it through without passing out.
I could go on and on about all that went on.
If you didn't make this one or did not know this was going on I suggest you check here and the MBN site often. I understand there are already plans in the making for the next one and I promise you one thing...you are going to learn, and you will be learning from some of the best pitmasters on the MBN cooking circuit.
