New to the BBQ Competitions

Hello everyone!  Myself and three buddies are starting a bbq competition team and plan on competing in some backyard events this year.  We just have no idea what it is all about. We have bought a smoker and have come up with a team name "Fat Bottom Butts" but have no idea what all goes into a competition.  If anyone has any advice or tips, we would love to hear them.
